Creating American Sign Language signs for technical terms in the sciences

Science has a lot of technical terms, many of which are quite long – think of genus-species nomenclature in biology. Of course, one can always use signs to spell these terms, letter by letter. But that's awkward. So, deaf scientists have banded together to create the signs they need. That's what this video is about.



Notice how the signs for DNA, RNA, atom, proton, neutron and electron (4:20 ff.).
