Thelonius Monk live in Palo Alto in 1968 [Epistrophy]

Today, Impulse! Records has announced it is releasing a recording of that historic concert for the first time. Master tapes recorded by the high school janitor, an audio engineer hobbyist, sat in Scher’s archives for years before being brought to Monk’s estate. As Monk’s son T.S. Monk describes it, Palo Alto is “one of the best live recordings I’ve ever heard by Thelonious.” The album arrives July 31.
