A Star Is Born (2018) [Media Notes 166]

I saw A Star Is Born when it was in theaters back in 2018. I don’t know why I went to see it, perhaps to hear Lady Gaga. I was certainly aware of her – I recall her wearing that meat dress – and I probably heard her sing something, perhaps the “Star Spangled Banner” for Super Bowl 50. Yeah, that’s probably why I went to see it, that and I just wanted to see a movie. Anyhow, I thought her singing was terrific. In fact I thought she was better than the movie.

As for the movie, I thought it ran a little long. Felt the same when I just rewatched it on Netflix. Not sure what the movie itself was about. She’s discovered by a middle-aged alcoholic singer whose tinnitus is getting worse. They get married, her career soars while his dies. He goes into rehab, comes out. But to no avail. You can guess the rest, as if it matters.

So sad.

What matters is Lady Gaga’s singing.
