You see it everywhere: Who's flicking whom? [Longwood Gardens, outside Philly]

  1. It would seem that people go to photograph themselves; the displays of lavish flowers are relegated to being one fly on the wall after the other.

    1. I wonder.

      In that setting with that many people it really is impossible to attend to the flowers, and to all the magnificent greenery as well, in any sustained way. So why not take photos? That's what I do. Sometimes I'm careful about what shots I take, sometimes I'm not. Of course, I don't take selfies, but so what?

      It's a start, and a reminder. I suppose one might ask: If all they're doing is taking selfies, then what's there to be reminded of. Good question. I don't know the answer.

      But I can't help but think that some people will reflect on their selfies, perhaps not very many at all, but some few, and through that reflection they're led to a deeper view...of what?
