The Wind Rises doesn’t have the visual flamboyance of Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, or even Howl’s Moving Castle. We don’t have all those saturated colors nor the exotic creatures. That palette is more subdued, the creatures mundane.
Still, I’m astounded at the crowd scenes and the aerial views of cities. They really are magnificent, as wonderful in their way as the flamboyance of those other films.
