After the 2nd improvisation she has some interesting remarks about her state of, shall we say, mind: “At that time of my life I felt very much like a caged animal. And this was kind of my coming out of my shell for a minute in that setting.”

  1. Are musical horror stories like the method/ classical (style) arguments in drama? The technique (substance) being shared by both schools.

    1. I don't really know how those arguments go in drama. I do know there is a technique vs. what? passion, the so-called Method, argument in drama. In classical music the argument is that the old guys took liberties with the score and even improvised. But improvisation dropped out of classical performance at the end of the 19th century, and performances started to tighten-up after WWII. In Montero's case, she'd won a Chopin competition at 25. Then at a gala performance after things were over she improvised four pieces, a crazy thing to do.
